Light
rail transit, potentially fuelled by a hydrogen fuel cell,
is seamlessly integrated into the fabric of the street and
provides a locus for higher-density mixed-use development.
By placing the central plant here — at the commercial and
civic core — the ecological flows of energy and resources
are made obvious to the community. Interwoven with local shops,
workplaces, and public open space, the central plant becomes
part of a larger civic vision dedicated to integrating ecological
and human processes.
Section
through the commercial/civic hub. To the left is the refurbished
Brentwood Mall surrounded by a vibrant public gathering
place. Buchanan Street, the primary route for busses and
cyclists, is connected by a covered pedestrian walkway
to the main light rail transit station, positioned centrally
along Lougheed Highway. The central energy plant is seen
