section of the Lougheed chunks (looking west). On either side,
a four-storey commercial street wall is surmounted by residential
units. The right-of-way is divided equally between light rail
(aligned down the centre) and two travel lanes (plus occassional
parking) on either side
Perspective
of the Lougheed Highway/Willingdon intersection. Light rail
travels at the same grade as pedestrians and cars, making
it an integral part of the streetscape. Streamlined stations,
like the one shown, are proposed for either side of the intersection.
This was considered preferable to a single, bulky station
as it allows the central median to accommodate a left turn
bay that is separated from through-traffic lanes by a row
of street trees. Two lanes plus an additional lane of occasional
parking are provided on both sides.
